摘要

The development of a new deposition-alloying process using Micro-EDM is described in the present paper. In the new process, a bi-metal tool electrode is used, and the two elements that compose the bi-metal electrode are deposited and alloyed in tandem using the energy provided by the electrical discharges in the EDM process. In the experiments, the two halves that compose the bi-metal tool electrode were made of medium carbon steel (S45C) and a nickel alloy (YNi-1). The experiments were successfully carried out in air medium and X-ray analysis results have shown that not only the deposit was a nickel-iron alloy, but also the composition of the obtained deposit can be controlled and is proportional to the cross sectional area ratio of the two materials in the tool electrode.
