Japanese cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) branches (10 cm long) infested with Thuja bark beetle (Phloeosinus perlatus) eggs were stored at 13-31鳦 under continually dark conditions to study the duration of the egg period, developmental zero, total effective temperature and the influence of low temperature on egg development. The data showed that the duration of the egg period was 11 days at 13鳦, 5 days at 22鳦 and 3 days at 31鳦. The developmental zero was 6.1鳦 and the total effective temperature was 88.5 degree-days. The survival ratio of larvae was 49% at 7鳦 for 20 days, 69% at 13鳦 for 20 days, and 80% at 22鳦 for 10 days.
