That people tell stories about their lives is a commonly accepted fact. Many researchers, and indeed methodological approaches to research, refer to the concept of storytelling and narrative as a way of describing the way in which individuals, communities and cultures give meaning to experiences and life events (Holloway and Freshwater, 2007). The research literature is now healthily populated with references to the narrative turn and to studies that use storytelling as a mode of data collection. The discourse of research is not yet dominant but is certainly no longer submissive! Although some might claim it remains subservient.
