A necessary condition for the normal operation of coke-oven batteries in the production of coke with the application of the technology of coal-blend stamping is the great strength of stamped coal cakes, which provides their integrity during charging in coke ovens. An insufficient strength of a stamped coal cake results in the collapse of its head part on the machine or coke side to a depth of 1-2 heating flues of the division wall. Collapses occur upon removal of the bottom plate from under the cake or immediately after its removal. With the total mass of the stamped cake being about 36 tons the mass of the collapsed part is 1-2 tons. In shape the parts that split off from the cake are columns with a base located at half of its height or at the floor of the coking chamber. The cleavage of this column occurs along the plane that passes between the first and second or (more seldom) between the second and the third leveling bars (Fig. 1). The cleavage lines are shown in Fig. 1 by a dashed line and the variants of collapses are marked by figures. Such a collapse is accounted for, to a certain extent, by the external structure of stamped cakes.
