摘要

Refractivity is an additive as well as constitutive property. If the refractivity of a substance be multiplied by its molar mass, the resulting product is termed as molecular refraction or molecular refractivity (R_M). An extensive discussion will be found in N. Bauer, K. Fajans and Lewin in Physical methods of organic chemistry . Molecular refractivity of homologous series of organic compounds can be calculated by Lorentz and Lorenz and Gadhawala, Desai and Joshi's formula.
