The wetland is a unique ecosystem which plays an important role in the environment. Peat swamp is a very typical type of wetlands. However, many ongoing highway construction projects often fail to consider the impact of any environmental friendly roadbed schemes on the peat swamp, which has given rise to many irreversible environmental problems. In view of this phenomenon, this paper studies the impact factors of the highway construction projects on the peat swamp by combining with the actual project. The paper also compares the impacts of different roadbed schemes adopted in the construction project on the peat swamp through the on-site water level monitoring and a series of data analyses, and identifies the roadbed schemes that are appropriate for the peat swamp. The research results show that among seven roadbed schemes, the schemes with the method of expanded polystyrene (EPS) blocks and Geogrid with EPS blocks have the least impact on the groundwater level in the peat swamp and will not have any destructive effect on the surrounding peat swamps.
