A coal slurry pipeline would be more economical than rail for moving coal from its proposed Mount Klappan mine in northwest British Columbia to export terminals on the Canadian coast, asserts Fortune Minerals. But the company is still evaluating a pipeline-rail combination. Fortune recently published the results of its economic assessment, which showed that a 3 million metric tonnes (mt)/yr capacity coal slurry pipeline running from Mount Klappan to the small port of Stewart, B.C., would have the lowest capital and operating costs of among all the truck, rail, pipeline and combination options examined.
