Common scab of potato caused by Streptomyces scabies has become severe and widespread in many districts of Gujarat state resulting in huge economic losses. An experiment was conducted during rabi (post-rainy) seasons of 2005 to 2007 to find out some economical and eco-friendly management approaches to this disease. The experiment was conducted with cv. Kufri Badshah with eight treatments involving botanicals-onion (Allium cepa) bulb extract and neem product (Achook), bioagents (Trichoderma viride, T. harzianum and Bacillus subtilis strain B5) and boric acid. The treatments were applied either individually or in combinations, including a control. The results indicated that seed tuber treatment with 3% boric acid followed by B. subtilis tuber treatment @ 6 g kg-1 recorded the lowest disease incidence (31.7%) and lowest disease index (1.81). Although there was no significant positive correlation between disease incidence/index and tuber yields, effect of disease was evident on poor quality tubers infected with scabs that reduces market price. Tuber deep treatment in Achook @ 0.02% for 30 min gave maximum net return of Rs. 1,60,340 with ICBR of 1:89.
