Courtship and mating behaviour of common gekkonid lizard Hemidactylus flaviviridis Rupell in India

This paper reports the courtship and mating behaviour of common gekkonid lizard Hemidactylus flaviviridis Rupell of India. Excited male raises its body and tail bit off the ground, monoeuver its tail and reaches near female. Responsive female does not move away from approaching male. Male then covers her body partly posteriority so that both cloacal apperture faces each other. In this act male twists his hind part to bring his cloacal apperture close to female's cloacal apperture, and then copulation is effected. It lasts for eight minutes in evening in November month. After separation both lick their respective genatilia and moves away. This paper gives detailed description of courtship and mating behaviour observed during November month at Kolasib District of Mizoram, India.
