OBSERVATIONS ON ECDYSIS IN COMMON HOUSE LIZARD HEMWACTYLUS FLAVIVIRIDIS RUPELL (GEKKONIDAE : REPTBLIA) IN MIZORAM, NORTH EAST INDIA.

摘要

Ecdysis is a process of periodic shedding of outer skin in reptiles, also known as moulting. The process of periodic shedding is under control of endocrine glands, whereby old skin is shed periodically and replaced by new one. Complete shedding of skin has been reported to be completed in 6 - 7 hrs and 52 hrs etc. Present observation deals with a very peculiar process of shedding which continued for 10 days. This paper reports 2nd consecutive moult of limbs and tail in Gekkonid lizard Hemidactylus flaviviridis, before, first moult on other parts of the body is completely shed, in Mizoram, Norm East India.
