The rectangular shaped hollow polyaniline (PANI) tubes prepared by in situ Acid Red 8 (AR8) crystals as templates provided a sustained release of the entrapped dye and their release behavior was dependent on the environmental pH. The investigation of tubular nanostructured materials is of great importance from both scientific and technological points of view because of their diverse applications in drug delivery, catalysis, optics, electronic, and magnetic devices. A number of approaches have been demonstrated in preparing various nanotubes made up of metals, metal oxides, semiconductors, and conductive polymers. The demonstration of PANI's biocompatibility in vivo has sparked interest in its use for biomedical applications, such as controlled drug delivery. It was also demonstrated that pH sensors of PANI are suitable for pH measurement in the range of pH 2-12and the ion-exchange properties of PANI are essential for H~+ transport, which was coupled with anion transport in the same direction. It is therefore desirable that the drugs are controlled released in a desired way by pH stimulation of core-shell drug-PANI products.
