Effect of spacing and organics on the quality attributes of Black Nightshade (Solarium nigrum)

In India, Black Nightshade (Solarium nigrum L.) has gained importance as a potential component in many drugs. Use of organic amendments in crop growth and regulation is the need of the hour to overcome drastic consequences of inorganic fertilization.With this view in mind, a field experiment was conducted to study the effect of spacing and organics/bio-regulators on quality attributes of black nightshade (Solanum nigrum L.). The treatments consisted of four levels of spacing and nine bio-stimulants/organics. The results indicated that maximum value for herbage yield was observed under wider spacing + RDF followed by panchagavya (3%). Regarding the quality parameters treatment S_7 (FYM + humic acid 20kg ha~(-1) as basal) recorded the highest ascorbic acid content and TSS. Lowest crude fibre content was registered in treatment S_4 (FYM + Panchagavya foliar spray-3 per cent at 15 days interval). The use of organics like humic acid, FYM and panchagavya produced significant effect on the fruit qualifycompared to inorganic fertilizers.
