Report of the 12th International Symposium on Mineral Exploration (ISME-XII) and the 34th IGC

The 12th International Symposium on Mineral Exploration (ISME) was held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, from 5-10 August 2012 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (Fig. 1). ISME is an international activity of the Division of Exploration Technology (DETEC) in Mining and Materials Processing Institute of Japan (MMIJ). ISME has been held every two years since 1990. Some symposia were jointed with the annual conference of IAMG (International Association for Mathematical Geology) and the IGC (International Geological Congress) as one session in IGC, which has been held every four years, is recognized as the 'Olympiad of Geology Community'. The IGC is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization whose meetings are held in collaboration with, and under sponsorship of, the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). The main purpose of the congress is to encourage the advancement of fundamental and applied researches in the earth sciences world-wide.
