Clay compounds such as smectite or mica are known as typical layer-structured cation-exchangeable com-pounds [1]. The interlayer Li+ of the synthetic lithium taeniolite (LTN), for example, can be substituted for other mono- or poly-valent cations. Furthermore, the flexible interlayer distance (dm) can be varied significantly by the intercalation of organic and inorganic molecules such as alcohols, amines, water, metal ions, and metal complexes [2]. These characteristic properties have attracted new attention for the preparation of various advanced materials, including catalysts.
