The enigma of microvascular and macrovascular changes in mild essential hypertension

We read with interest the study by De Ciuceis et al. [1] regarding the effects of antihypertensive treatment on oxidative stress, microvascularand macrovascular alterations observed in patients with mild essential hypertension. Although the interplay between microcirculation and macrocirculation represents an innovative research field in the pathophysiology of essential hypertension [2], the present study raises some additional issues that should be taken into consideration.
