Candida biofilm consists of a network of yeasts, hyphae, and/or pseudohyphae embedded in a matrix of polysaccharides, proteins, and other undefined components. The Candida biofilm lifestyle results in protection of the fungus from host defences and antifungal drug resistance.1 Biofilms are resistant to azoles and amphotericin B, but remain susceptible to lipid-based amphotericin B and echinocandins.
