Velamentous insertion of the fetal umbilical cord is rare and usually associated with poor outcome. Identification of this entity prior to labor and/or rupture of membranes is extremely valuable and simple to obtain using color Doppler sonography. Presented here is a case report using this easy and unique method of identifying a velamentous insertion of the umbilical cord via color Doppler sonography regardless of the placental implantation site.
