Towards Selective Inheritance in CORBA

Inheritance is an important feature of object-oriented systems. It aims to model human perception. Most object-oriented methodologies support multiple inheritances through the use of super classes and subclasses. However, the same methods do not support selective inheritance. Selective inheritance possesses the feature to selectively inherit features of multiple ancestors. It is needed so that a class inherits only from a subset of ancestors to avoid a contradictory mix of features. CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) supports multiple interface inheritance but does not deal with selective inheritance directly. This paper highlights the need for selective interface inheritance and discusses about the method of implementing selective interface inheritance in CORBA.
