Mechanized assessments, such as multiple choice questions (MCQs) and true/false questions (TFQs), are exceptionally convenient for teachers because they allow assessment of large classes in a consistent and rapid manner. As academic positions are eroded and class sizes grow, it is likely that the use of MCQs and TFQs will escalate. Unfortunately, mechanized assessment is not without difficulties.
