Experiments related to environmental analytical chemistry have increased in this Journal in recent years. Several of these experiments have focused on the analysis of environmental tobacco smoke and its components (1,2). In the experiment described below, a different aspect of environmental analysis is investigated. Here a naturally formed metabolite that is a biochemical indicator of environmental tobacco smoke exposure is quantified.
