Repetition and Histological Features of Renal Biopsies in Childhood Henoch-Schonlein Purpura Nephritis: Report on Eleven Cases

Introduction: Henoch Schonlein purpura (HSP) is one of the most common vasculitis with renal involvement in children. The pathological features are complex and divergent, and are often inconsistent with the clinical presentation. Case report Eleven cases of 5-14 years old children with HSP who developed to Henoch Schonlein purpura nephritis (HSPN) were enrolled. Renal biopsies before and after treatment were obtained and pathological features of HSPN were analyzed in corresponding to the clinical manifestation. Treatment and long-term sequential therapy for each patient were graded according to their initial clinical manifestation and pathological changes. Conclusion: The current report indicates that appropriate long-term HSPN treatment requires not only routine urine analysis, but also repeated renal biopsies in the patients in order to achieve complete recovery.
