Effects of liposomes containing exogenous recombinant porcine somatotropin on rats.

In this study, liposomes containing recombinant porcine somatotropin (PST) were injected into the abdominal cavity of 64 rats of both sexes divided into 4 equal groups. The control group was injected with saline at 1 ml, Group I was injected with pure PST daily (1 ml/rat, 1.2 mg/ml) Group II was injected with PST liposome every 7 days (8.4 mg/ml) and Group III was injected with PST liposome every 14 days (16.8 mg/ml). The study lasted for 28 days. It was shown that the insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) levels of Groups I, II and III significantly increased on the first day, and were several times higher on the 7th day compared to the control group. However, it significantly decreased in Group III on the 14th day. PST treatments increased the body weight of both males and female rats. Body weights between control and treatment groups were significant on the 7th and 14th days, but not on the 28th day. PST had a greater effect on liveweight gain in male rats after 7, 14 and 28 days. The growth effect of PST liposomes on the rats was mediated by the sustained release formulation used in the experiment, and the effect lasted more than 7 days..
