MOF Reports on Steel, Ferro-Alloys Imported under Preferential Duty System

Steel and ferro-alloys can be imported in accordance with the provisions of preferential duty system and a report from the Ministry of Finance showed mixed results.On a customs-cleared basis at the end of December 2000, importers of ferro-manganese used up 43.2 percent of the ceiling set for the item. As for ferro-sillion, importers exceeded the top limit with volume reaching 315.3 percent; other ferro-alloys saw imports top the ceiling by reaching 623.4 percent (imports were suspended on April 5). Ferro-chrome amounted to 42.9 percent of the maximum volume; ferro-nickel (nickel content less than 33 percent) and ferro-nickel (others) reached 12.7 percent 31.1 percent respectively.
