The Ministry of Finance said import of lead from all countries listed under the preferential duty system has gone beyond the predetermined limit and will stop imports on May 16. The ministry will also halt on May 16 copper imports from Chile and zinc from China and Peru, which have also exceeded their limits.From this fiscal year, the ministry is controlling imports under the system on a monthly basis and will disclose volumes of these items at the end of May. As for lead, imports exceeded the overall limit of 6,065.776 tons.Supply of lead has been tight and, as was expected, imports exceeded the limit, while domestic demand for copper and zinc is stagnant and volumes did not reach the total limit. Besides, copper and zinc imports are subject to duty under the new system.
