Xanthate Mediated Generation of the Benzotriazol-1-Ylmethyl Radical and Its Subsequent Addition to A Variety of Olefins

The first generation of the benzotriazol-1-ylmethyl radical (3) is reported from S-(1`H-1,2,3-benzotriazol-1-ylmethyl)-O-ethylcarbonodithioate (1). Susequent additions of radical (3) to a variety of olefins are demonstrated.
