Less than 50 years after WEG was founded is a remote Brazilian town, it has expanded to become a leading player in the global motors and controls market. Tony Sacks travelled to its headquarters to discover more about the company, whose activities range from forestry to turnkey process plants. As you approach the town of Jaragua do Sul in southern Brazil, the banana plantations and rice fields give way to a cultivated forest stretching as far as the eye can see. This is the WEG forest. Nearby is the WEG farm. As you enter the town, you pass a factory where WEG manufactures its own paints and varnishes, and a series of massive foundries where the company smelts its own metal to create motor housings.
