摘要

On the morning of December 22, 2009, Noah Katz walked into a McDonald's restaurant in Norwood, a working-class neighborhood in the Northeast Bronx, to a teary-eyed scene and couldn't help but shed a few himself. Kitty-corner to the fast-food joint, the recently remodeled Foodtown grocery store his grandfather opened in 1956-and later passed down to Noah and his brother-was now a wreckage of ash and rubble in the aftermath of a five-alarm fire that ravaged the store and the neighboring diner and dental office. Now Katz had to address an apprehensive and emotional collection of some fifty Foodtown employees, who huddled together in fear that their employment at the workplace many of them considered a second home would burn down with it.
