WABCO's OnGuardActive intended to advance commercial vehicle safety; other investments target operational efficiency. Commercial vehicle technology company WABCO recently announced several new vehicle safety and efficiency technologies and investments that it said will add value for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and fleet owners. WABCO's new OnGuardActive - part of the company's suite of OnGuard collision mitigation systems (CMS) first introduced in 2007 and what WABCO called its most advanced CMS for trucks and buses in North America - utilizes a 77 GHz radar sensor that the company said allows the system to perform in all weather conditions. WABCO said that the all-weather operation inherent in OnGuardActive is particularly important in poor-visibility situations when both the driver's vision and the capabilities of camera-based sensors might be impaired. These include whiteouts, heavy rain, dense fog, bright sunshine or nighttime driving.
