APPEA highlights threats to Australian LNG industry

The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) has described a number of potential threats that could undermine expansion of the LNG industry in Austra-lia, Gladstone Observer reported. According to APPEA chief David Byers, politicians have yet to establish a stable, predictable and competitive taxation regime for the sector. "Regulatory processes for approving projects are becoming increasingly inefficient.. .and there are serious weaknesses in the development of a skilled workforce to support industry's supply capacity," he said. Australia's oil and gas industry created some 100,000 jobs in 2012 alone.
