Preimplantation development of the mammalian embryo and its regulation by growth factors.

摘要

A review of work on the effects of oestrogen, progesterone and growth factors on embryonic development prior to implantation in mammals. The effects of oestrogen and progesterone on cell proliferation and differentiation in the uterus are mediated by native growth factors and cytokines. Preimplantation embryonic development appears to be independent of exogenous growth factors. Embryo implantation is regulated by the uterine expression of leukaemia inhibitory factor (LIF) in many species. It is suggested that LIF may be of general significance in mammals.
