Enzootic bovine leukosis as a herd problem in a Holstein-Friesian cattle herd in Assiut, Egypt

Enzootic bovine leukosis was found to be a herd problem in a Holstein-Friesian population in Assiut, Egypt. With the agar gel immunodiffusion test, 45% of 100 adult cows and 15% of 50 fattening steers were seropositive; haematological examination showed 55% of adult cows and 15% of fattening steers to be positive. 20% of cows showed clinical signs of leukosis, including lymph node enlargement and unilateral xerophthalmia. Haematological observations showed marked leukocytosis with persistent lymphocytosis. The histopathological changes in kidney, spleen and lymph nodes showed noticeable lymphocellular infiltration.
