ASNT 2008 Fall Conference and Quality Testing Show 2008 - Charleston, SC

The Canadian Institute for NDE (CINDE) was on-site in Charleston, South Carolina from November 10-13 for the ASNT 2008 Fall Conference and Quality Testing Show. Attendance was estimated at almost 1000 people and included attendees, presenters, exhibitors and ASNT Board and Committee members from all over the world. Three full days of multi-track sessions were preceded by the opening of the Grand Exposition on Monday evening. Over one hundred and thirty exhibitors showcased a wide variety of technology and educational material for conventional NDT inspection techniques and equipment. Equipment and software for newer technologies such as Phased Array and Digital RT were prominently featured, feeding an almost continuous discussion about their advantages and limitations. Academics, educators and trainers had plenty to learn themselves as several vendors' demonstrated new approaches to enhance classroom teaching. Some of these approaches use the Internet in much the same way as CINDE's interactive, on-line courses, while others are more stand-alone "canned" programs that allow students to learn at their own pace. Some of the new instructional approaches are already being used, such as a weld inspection training and certification course used for insurance inspectors in the UK.
