Multiple eccrine hidrocystomas--response to treatment with carbon dioxide and pulsed dye lasers.

These bluish translucent or skin-colored papules typically increase in size and number in hot and humid environments or after exercise, as a result of sweat retention. They have a predilection for the malar and periorbital areas of middle-aged and elderly women. EHs differ from apocrine hidrocystomas in that the latter are not affected by temperature, are multilocular, and have a characteristic decapitation secretion, periodic acid-Schiff-positive granules, and myoepithelial cells on histology. MEHs, on the other hand, are unilocular and have a double layer of small, cuboidal epithelial cells. These multiple, often cosmetically disfiguring, MEH lesions pose a therapeutic challenge because there is no satisfactory treatment. Incision and drainage or surgical excision of such numerous lesions on the face is cumbersome, and cosmetic results may be unacceptable.
