Letter: Cardiac Devices and Electromagnetic Interference Revisited: New Radiofrequency Technologies and Implications for Dermatologic Surgery

I read with interest the excellent review article by Yu and colleagues, 31:932-40 August 2005 In the section on electrocautery, the statement was made that "true electrocautery is now rarely used by modern practitioners." Since I find that I could not effectively practice dermatology without electrocautery, I decided to canvas the attendees of the Great Lakes Dermatologic Society. Fourteen of 15 members in attendance regularly use electrocautery. This does not fit my definition of rarely used. I think, though, that electrocautery is not fully appreciated as the rapid, cost effective, xosmetically satisfactory procedure that it is.
