The clocks have gone back and the first chill of winter is upon us, but when did the summer end? I think it began and ended in March, leaving us with one of the most challenging growing and harvesting seasons I can remember, the repercussions of whichare starting to hit home in terms of milk yield and quality of forage available. Having said that, grass growth around here has been phenomenal. We have had four big cuts, the last one two weeks ago, which was wet and heavy and has found an escape route via the side wall of the silo making the yard look a mess with an expensive fixing job looming.
