State-owned Korea National Oil Company's (KNOC) announced late Wednesday it will acquire Harvest Energy Trust for $4.1 billion (Cdn.) in a deal that enhances its North American growth strategy while securing oil and gas reserves for the country's import-dependent petroleum needs.Under the agreement, KNOC will buy all the issued and outstanding trust units of Harvest Energy for a total cash consideration of approximately $1.8 billion plus the assumption of $2.3 billion of debt."Korea National Oil Corporation is excited about this acquisition and believes Harvest is a perfect fit for KNOC's North American growth strategy. KNOC has ambitious plans for future growth and is committed to a long term investment strategy in Canada," said Young-won Kang, president of KNOC.
