摘要

Street trees have been terribly neglected, says Alys Fowler, but voluntary and public sector groups are repairing the damage. Those of us in the horticulture industry are very lucky in many respects. Most of us get to be outside for most of the year.We have an intimate knowledge of the weather on a daily basis. We are ruled by the seasons. For us, nature is a close companion. But for the great many people who are office-bound, nature is a fleeting experience that happens in lunch breaks or on the way to work. At the forefront of their encounter with nature are street trees.
