Missing out on sales because of the late delivery of goods or having to tell suppliers why you can't pay them yet because customers still haven't settled their invoices can end up leaving a firm with a bad reputation. Every company is part of a supply chain and it is the smooth running of this chain that largely determines the efficiency of a business - whether it can produce the right number of goods on time and whether you can get them out and sell them. Recognising where your business lies withina supply chain and the role it plays, and managing the relationship between businesses is crucial to maintaining an effective enterprise. In fact, it is so crucial that the Horticultural Trades Association set up the supply chain initiative under the direction of HTA consultant David Gilchrist.
