Stretching from Rushcutters Bay in the City's east through to Darling Harbour in the west, Sydney's recently completed Cross City Tunnel looks set to forever change the face of traffic flows throughout the Sydney CBD. The tunnel, which opened two months ahead of schedule on the 28th August, is expected to remove up to 90,000 vehicles per day from the CBD's streets. As well as enhancing connections to major arterial roads and delivering improvements in safety (for both motorists and pedestrians), air quality, and access/scheduling for the City's public transport bus network, the Cross City Tunnel reduces the time taken to traverse the CBD from east to west (or vice versa) from an average of over 20 minutes to around 2 minutes.
