TWO companies must pay 160,000 pounds in fines and costs after a 31-tonne concrete parapet beam that had formed part of a railway bridge fatally crushed a worker during demolition work. The HSE prosecuted demolition contractor Micor and its subcontractor Crane and Transport Services after the incident, which happened in April 2006 during overnight work to demolish the A1306 Stifford Rail Bridge near the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex.
