摘要

PLANT hire specialist A-Plant has been fined 200,000 pounds after a fitter fell from a stack of portable cabins. Phillip Pearce worked at A-Plant Hire's Maidstone accommodation depot preparing cabins for rental to construction firms. He had climbed on top of a stack of two units to attach lifting chains and was walking backwards guiding the crane in, when he fell five metres and died at the scene. HSE inspector John Underwood said only lorry drivers were meant to carry out lifting and slinging operations at the yard but a contract haulier had arrived and said he wasn't allowed to sling and move units, so in the absence of anyone else, Pearce agreed to help.
