The height of competence

FALLS FROM HEIGHT are one of the main causes of death and injury in the workplace, accounting for around 67 deaths and nearly 4,000 major injuries during the 2003-04 period. Yet working at height is not just limited to construction work and is an essential part of many jobs, including window cleaning and the maintenance of air conditioning units, CCTV and electrical equipment. With this in mind, the HSE introduced the new Work at Height Regulations 2005 which apply to all industries where work is involved and to anyone who is involved in the work, including individual employers, partnerships and companies as well as to the self-employed, architects and property or facilities managers.
