Several important aspects of the geology, geochemistry, and development of oceanic ferromanganese ores are considered. Manganese resources in the World Ocean are exceptionally great in these ores-they are estimated at 20.9 billion tons versus 8.9 billion tons on all the continents put together. In addition to iron and manganese, which are in short supply in our country, these ores also contain strategically important metals, such as cobalt, nickel, copper, and molybdenum. However, their recovery from ores is currently uneconomical and environmentally inefficient. A fundamentally new, less costly, and environmentally safe recovery method is proposed.
