Letter to the editor: Donor site morbidity of free ulnar forearm flap - Absent or not found?

With great interest, I read the article by Swee T. Tan et al1 published in Head and Neck in Volume 34, October 2012. Better late than never.The authors reported on their experience with the free ulnar forearm flap (UFF) in 242 cases and reviewed 50 of them in which the donor site was closed directly. Five patients had flexor carpi ulnaris and 1 patient had palma-ris longus tendon included in the UFF. One of the secondary purposes of the study was to assess the impact of direct closure of donor site on hand function, considering pain, cold intolerance, range of motion of the elbow, wrist, and hand joints. Grip and pinch strength of the donor limb was compared with the contralateral one.
