Fry production in many marine fish aquaculture industries is a relatively inexpensive and elastic procedure at the start of the production value chain. However, the amounts of fry produced are directly responsible for the total biomass produced and for the mean price of the fish sold at the end of the cycle and so impacts direcdy on the profits generated or lost by the companies in that industry.
