Howard Feldman, API director of regulatory and scientific affairs, stated that certain existing particulate matter (PM) air-quality standards should be retained by the US EPA. The EPA is expected to outline the proposal for the new PM National Ambient Air Quality Standards (PM NAAQS) on June 7. The last revision was in 2006. More stringent standards could hinder refineries, manufacturers, and utilities with additional costs, Feldman argued.
