Algeria is on track to complete its next major gas export project,the 8 billion cubic meter per year(775 million cubic foot per day)Medgaz pipeline to Spain,by mid-2009 as scheduled(WGIMar.l2,p1).That timeframe could also see a go-ahead for a second new export pipe to Italy,the 8 Bcm/yr Galsi pipeline,where backers are targeting a final investment decision(FID)in July 2009 and first gas deliveries in mid-2012-although slippage is possible in Italy's labyrinthine permitting process,and Algeria itself must make strides in developing its gas infrastructure in order to keep export plans ticking over.
