SPOT LNG LNG Prices Climb in Asia, But Fall Below $6/MMBtu in Europe

LNG spot prices in Northeast Asia rose 150 to $7.40 per million Btu on reports of stronger tender award prices, despite expectations that prices for February deliveries will fall, according to WGI assessments for LNG cargoes for delivery four to eight weeks ahead. In Southwest Europe, spot prices were assessed 150 lower at $5.85/MMBtu on the back of a weak winter outlook. The UK National Balancing Point (NBP) day-ahead price dropped 260 to $5.26/MMBtu, while January futures fell 220 to $5.34. Netbacks for Mideast sellers in Asia were around $1.10 higher than in Southwest Europe, while UK/Belgian net-backs lagged Asia by almost $ 1.70.
