Japan readies for GMO labeling; businesses shift to non-GMO products

With an implementing directive to be issued in April 2000, labeling of genetically modified foodstuffs will be required in Japan beginning in April 2001. But even as details remain to be developed, agricultural crop and food importers and producers are gearing up to take advantage of the "non-GMO" label to woo consumers leery of biotech-derived foods.
