USDA approves non-GMO label claim for meat, processed egg products

USDA has opened the door for meat, poultry and processed egg producers to label their products as derived from animals not fed GE rations. USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service has replied positively to a label claim sketch filed in October 2012 by the Non-GMO Project, a Bellingham, Wash.-based, third-party certifying organization, to allow a label that would indicate that livestock animals and poultry were fed diets free of GMOs.
